It's been a while since we last saw a phone from Micromax under Yu brand. But that is about to change. The company will launch the Yureka Black, a re-imagining of the popular Yureka phone that was launched in 2015, in the last week of May. The Yureka Black, India Today Tech learns, will be priced under Rs 10,000 although the final price of the phone is yet to be decided.
The device, unlike most other Micromax phones, will be online-only phone. In other words, it will be sold only on e-retail sites. Given its price group, which is under Rs 10,000, the phone will compete with the likes of the Redmi 4, Nokia 3 and the some of the Lenovo and Moto phones.
Not much is known about the hardware of Yureka Black but India Today Tech has seen the phone and there are some details that we can confirm. The phone will have a 5-inch screen and a metal body. However, unlike what you see on the mainstream phones nowadays, the Yureka Black comes in a very different kind of finishing. It is jet black, just like the jet black version of the iPhone 7, and has very shiny mirror like finish. Hence the name Yureka Black. Although the top and bottom parts of the rear cover are still made of plastic, unlike much expensive phones like the iPhone 7 that have an all-metal construction. But this is also given the fact that Yureka Black is a more affordable phone.
On the front the device has a fingerprint scanner. On the rear there is a large round ring around the camera. Overall the device looks quite good considering its price. Although how well consumers receive it will depend a lot on its hardware and final price.
Talking of hardware, the specifics for the Yureka Black are not yet available. But the India Today Tech has learnt that the phone will be powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon processor. It is also likely to have at least 3GB RAM, although there is talk of 4GB too. And similarly, the phone will either come in the 16GB variant or in the 32GB. The specifications for the cameras too are not clear at the moment and we hear that the phone will have cameras that will be best in its class.
