Samsung has finally started rolling out Android 8.0 Oreo to limited Galaxy S8 and the Galaxy S8 Plus users. The Oreo beta version comes as a part of Samsung Experience 9.0 and brings some of the core features like colored media notifications, launcher shortcuts and more.
The South Korean tech firm has said that the Android 8.0 Oreo on the Galaxy S8 and the Galaxy S8 Plus will run on T-Mobile, Sprint, and unlocked versions only. Interested users can sign up to get the taste of Oreo by logging in to the Samsung+ app. Android Police says that those running Android Nougat will get an Android Oreo 1.4GB update.
Samsung, in the changelog, says it has made changes in the Quick Panel, Home Screen gestures, Samsung Keyboard, System Performance, Edge Screen, Samsung Cloud, Dual Messenger and more. Some of the improvements related to Bluetooth audio codec support, video playback, Samsung Pay are also made among other enhancements.
On a related note, Google recently rolled out the first developer preview of Android 8.1. The final version is said to arrive in December this year. Android 8.1 Oreo Developer Preview 1 (DP1) is available for Google Pixel, Google Pixel XL, Nexus 5X, Nexus 6P, Google Pixel 2 and Google Pixel 2 XL smartphones.
Interested users can get the new OS version by rolling in the Android Beta Programme. After enrolling, users will get updates over-the-air. The process requires users to enroll their devices as well. It is worth adding that the OTA updates won't be available for those who have flashed the OS version manually.
Android developer blog post suggests that the Android 8.1 Oreo DP2 is scheduled to arrive sometime in this month.
Some of the features included in Android 8.1 Oreo DP1 are adaptive Light/Dark UI, semi-transparent Quick Settings, settings app with new color, Auto-dimming of navigation bars and less bugging notification alerts.
