There have been strong rumours about how Facebook is slowly entering the hardware market. The company is being said to be working on its own smart speaker and now a new-found patent suggests an AR glass too is on the way.
Spotted by Quartz, the new patent indicates the social media company to be working on an AR-based glass will include a "waveguide display with two-dimensional scanner". The glasses are said to have a transparent display. In the patent, it has been explained that the light will flow into the display, which will then reach the user's eye.

"The waveguide display may be included in an eye-wear comprising a frame and a display assembly that presents media to a user's eyes," says the patent.
As expected, the technology is being developed by Facebook-owned VR division, Oculus. Business Insider says that one of the authors mentioned in the patent has also worked on Microsoft Hololens before. There is no word as to when the social media firm will launch its AR glasses or if it will ever launch it or not. Since the details given come from a patent, there could be chances that the device might not see the light of the day at all.
On a related note, Google seems to be making inroads in the AR department, once again after a failed attempt. The search giant last month launched its Google Glass Enterprise Edition, moving away from the consumer aspect and focussing solely on industrial use.
The wearable device comes with an updated camera module, which now includes an 8M sensor instead of 5MP. The eye-gear also includes longer battery life, more powerful processor and improved Wi-Fi speeds. It is easily detachable now and can be used with nearly all kinds of glasses, including industry safety glasses.
