There hasn't been much talk about the rumoured Surface Phone from Microsoft. However, a new patent application filed by Microsoft on Thursday hints a metallic phone body which also doubles as an antenna.
Antti Karilainen, the person behind the patent application, is an antenna and RF expert who has worked on few mobile projects with Microsoft. The patent dubbed as "Cover of Device Acting as Antenna of the Device" indicates that the Surface Phone will have a metallic body. Since the device is going to swing around a hinge placed at the centre, it will refrain users from causing any interference or any sort of detuning that causes the signal strength to deteriorate.
Earlier last month, Satya Nadella confirmed that the company will be making more phones but it will not look like regular phones that are available today. Nadella also said that we would see more Microsoft phones in 2017. As far as the Surface Phone is concerned, there hasn't been much to talk about, but the fresh patent application proves that Microsoft is definitely working on something new and something big.

In June this year, a video was accidentally published on a Microsoft-related social media channel that suggested that the phone -- which might be called the 'Surface Mobile' instead -- might not just be an ordinary mobile device. It was said to include an in-built "onto table" projection. The leaks also showed that the device might include a Surface Pen, something specially designed for the device. On the hardware front, the device maybe powered by a Snapdragon SoC but unfortunately it might not be the latest processor available.
